Glass Reinforced Polyester vs powder coated mild steel

What is GRP?

GRP or Glass Reinforced Polyester is polyester reinforced with the addition of glass fiber and is used on all our Enclosures. It a best quality protection system used for electrical application but tends to be the more expensive upfront cost.

Why should you spend more when you can cheapen down and rely on powder coated mild steel instead?

Well, the answer is simple…

The positives of GRP far outweighs the positives of powder coated mild steel.

  • GRP has virtually no maintenance, or maintenance cost, involved.
  • It is a hardy material which can withstand conditions outside with very little wear and tear.
  • GRP is slip resistant, allowing users to easily access the hatch and doors off all electrical enclosures.
  • GRP is strong and boasts incredible load bearing capabilities, allowing enclosures to withstand forces from any direction
  • It is weather resistant, meaning that in all seasons, the amazing properties of GRP can withstand the hottest summers and the coldest winters, and all exteriors will never weaken or fault.
  • It is NON-CORROSIVE. GRP can withstand a wide PH range and will remain unaffected by harsh chemicals that it may be exposed to.
  • And most importantly GRP is NON-CONDUCTIVE. GRP material does not conduct heat or electricity, making it a smart and safe choice for anywhere that electrical hazards pose a threat.

The environment will also thank you too.

GRP does not emit any chemicals once installed and at the end of its long service life, can be broken down into its component materials, which can then be recycled into new materials.

Whilst Powder Coated Mild Steel may save you a few pennies at the start, what you don’t spend initially will end up emptying your pocket later.

Powder Coated Mild Steel has high maintenance costs. The paint fades, corrodes and becomes unusable over a short amount of time of being exposed to the environment, causing frequent replacements and many upkeep hassles.

The choice of using GRP as the protection material of our enclosures has resolved and removed all risks and hazards that were associated with low-cost protection systems and in turn have minimised extra production, maintenance, and installation costs. Helping you to INSTALL WITH CONFIDENCE.
